Night Work To Start This Week

KC Streetcar track slab joint sealing to start this Sunday and last for approximately 5-8 weeks

Property owners, businesses, and residents can expect night construction along the downtown streetcar route starting this week. This work is preventative and intended to prolong the life of the KC Streetcar track slab.

Overnight work is anticipated to start Sunday, February 26 at 10:00 p.m. with construction crews working near 20th Street and proceeding north on Main Street performing necessary track slab repairs. Work will be performed Sunday through Thursday nights, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. All work is weather dependent. Work will begin prior to service concluding for the evening but will not impact Streetcar operations. Streetcars will be flagged through the construction zones between the hours of 10:00 p.m. – midnight.

The work will generally move from the south to the north, beginning south of 20th Street and concluding at Independence Avenue. Work will include two main phases:

  • Track slab preparatory work from late February through March
  • Track slab joint sealing anticipated to start in early April

Nightly road closures will be in effect Sunday through Thursday, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and traffic control will be picked up and return to regular traffic before morning streetcar service.
