On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, a ransom cyber-attack hit the KC Area Transportation Authority (KCATA), Kansas City’s regional bus provider. This attack is affecting their regional call center and transit vehicle tracking and location information. All fixed bus routes, including Freedom and Freedom-On-Demand paratransit service, are fully operational.

KC Streetcar service is not affected and service is running as normal with 10-12 minutes frequencies. However, streetcar real-time arrival and tracking information are affected meaning that streetcar arrival information is not available on the digital signs at streetcar stops nor is it available on the various streetcar tracking feeds such as the City Post streetcar tracker, RideKC’s web watch, or arrival displays.
The collective RideKC transit team is working to bring all systems back online as soon as possible. We understand the frustration and appreciate everyone’s patience. The Transit App for transit planning and location information is online and is providing location information. The Transit App is available for free downloads for smartphones. RideKC Notify text alert service is still available. Sign up by texting “streetcar” to 816-685-8541.
