Statement Regarding Recent Incident Involving the KC Streetcar

On Thursday, September 7, 2017, at approximately 11:00 a.m., an incident occurred when KC Streetcar #801 came into contact with a piece of construction equipment in use at the active construction site on the southeast corner of 20th and Main Street.  Once that occurred, the streetcar stopped movement at the intersection of 20th and Main Street. Approximately twenty people were on board the streetcar at the time and one reported minor injury.

Shortly after the incident, streetcar service was suspended and supplemented with several “Streetcar Link” buses provided by the KC Area Transportation Authority.  The Kansas City Police Department, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and the KC Streetcar team arrived on the scene to start the incident investigation.  Once released by the on-site team, KC Streetcar #801 was brought back under its own power to the Singleton Yard for further investigation and assessment.  At approximately 1:20 p.m., streetcar service resumed with two streetcars. Streetcar service was affected for approximately two hours.

The KC Streetcar team is currently assessing the extent of the damage and the costs associated with repairing KC Streetcar #801. More information about the incident and the schedule to repair KC Streetcar #801 will be shared once it is available.
