18th & Vine Study

Project Overview

KC Streetcar, in partnership with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) and the City of Kansas City, Missouri (KCMO) is conducting a feasibility study to extend the streetcar to the 18th & Vine District. This study is evaluating route options, transit demand, potential stop locations and facilitating public engagement to support future planning for an 18th & Vine Streetcar. The official study area includes Wyandotte Street to Woodland Avenue, and 17th Street to 20th Street.

Oversight Advisory Committee

An Oversight Advisory Committee (OAC) advised the project team, provided feedback, and served as project champions, advocates and a sounding board throughout the project. The OAC is made up of stakeholders including neighborhood leaders, business owners, cultural stewards, and public officials. Public Engagement

The study engaged with the broader public throughout the evaluation process to identify and confirm project goals, develop alternatives, and gather feedback on route alignment and stop locations. The first public meeting for the study was held in February 2026.

A second public meeting was held in July 2026 to show alignment comparisons, the preferred alignment, potential stop locations, and next steps for the project. The July meeting highlighted how community feedback helped shape the study by developing a new route alternative and outlined the recommended next steps as the study comes to a close. Preferred Alternative & Next Steps

The preferred alignment identified through the project study is a double-track option on 18th Street. This alternative accommodates an option for double-track on 18th all the way to Paseo, or a single-track loop on the eastern end. This alternative is intuitive and easy for riders to understand (similar to the original downtown KC Streetcar starter line), is feasible and construct-able (eliminates concerns of low clearance under the 19th Street bridge), and allows for future expansion to the east or west.
