Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and the KC Streetcar Authority hosted a dynamic activation of the first-ever art museum KC Streetcar wrap, which celebrates free access to art and transportation, and showcases artwork and artists featured in the Kemper Museum Permanent Collection. This collaboration brings art into public spaces, making contemporary art a part of everyday life in Kansas City.
Riders participated in an immersive live silent concert on Wednesday, December 4, from 5–7 p.m. aboard the Kemper Museum Streetcar #802. Riders watched live musicians perform on electric instruments—playing silently to the eye—while listening through wireless headphones that allow them to control the volume. The experience was elevated with vocalists joining the performance as the streetcar travels through the heart of downtown Kansas City, creating a festive and interactive event for all attendees.
This special free event was presented by 2 the Maxxe, Kemper Museum, Silent KC, and the KC Streetcar Authority, with performances by a lineup of local musicians that included Joe and Nikol Straws, Lee Langston, Mia Ramsey, Paula Lewis-Saunders, Anthony Saunders, Vincent Orsolini, Zachary Arias, Jordan Faught and EleveN2wenty2.
“We are excited to partner with the KC Streetcar Authority on the dynamic silent concert program that Silent KC has developed at Kemper Museum over the past several years and take it out into the city,” said Kreshaun McKinney, director of learning and engagement for Kemper Museum.
