- RFQ/RFP
The KC Streetcar team is reaching a major milestone in its Main Street Extension project by preparing to “tie in” and connect the extension with the downtown route. In order to complete these critical tie-in construction activities, downtown KC Streetcar service will be temporarily suspended for approximately four weeks.

The temporary service suspension began on September 30, 2024, and will last approximately four weeks. All work and scheduling are dependent on weather and other unforeseen circumstances. During this period, the KC Streetcar Constructors will operate 24-hour shifts, including weekend work, to complete the necessary construction.

Additionally, while streetcar service is suspended, the KC Streetcar team will also perform track and route maintenance on the downtown route. This work includes the rehab of track slab and construction of new track drains at 20th Street and Main Street. This work will take place during daytime hours, and not during overnight hours. Some work may happen on a Saturday as well.
This construction activity for the next several weeks represents a key step in extending the KC Streetcar system and bringing enhanced transit access to more of Kansas City. We appreciate the public’s patience as we work to deliver a stronger and more connected KC Streetcar transit system.

To ensure transit services continue, a dedicated “Streetcar Link” bus service is deployed on the route, maintaining public transportation coverage along the streetcar route throughout the temporary suspension. While KC Streetcar service is temporarily suspended, we are operating Ride KC buses on the streetcar route. These buses are free to ride, stop at designated streetcar stops, and operate with regular streetcar hours. The service frequency will be 10-15 minutes.

Northbound and Southbound sound riders will utilize the same stop at Union Station. The pick up/drop off location is located north of the Union Station Streetcar Stop and marked with signage.

Passengers boarding at the River Market North stop will board from the sidewalk on the north side and NOT from the streetcar stop. This is also marked with signage.
