Riverfront Extension Grand Opening

Mark your calendars for Monday, May 18, 2026 to celebrate the Grand Opening of the KC Streetcar Riverfront Extension

Following the ceremony, the Riverfront Extension will officially open for full passenger service. At that time, the public is invited to hop on the streetcar from any stop between UMKC and the Riverfront and experience the newly expanded route.

Community Celebration and Picnic

Celebrate a new connection in the heart of the city—join us for a community picnic to mark the opening of the KC Streetcar Riverfront Extension!

 

Take a break in your day—hop on the streetcar and meet us on the riverfront over your lunch break at Berkley Riverfront Park.  Bring your own picnic or grab a bite from a lineup of local food trucks.  

 

Take a stroll, explore the developing riverfront district, soak in the views! This is your invitation to gather, connect, and celebrate this exciting new chapter for Kansas City.

 

All aboard for good food, great company, and a beautiful day on the riverfront—we’ll see you there!

Full passenger service for the 6.5 mile streetcar route will commence immediately following the press conference at 11 a.m.  The completion of this $62 million, 0.7-mile streetcar extension marks a major milestone in Kansas City’s continued investment in transit, connectivity, and riverfront revitalization. All are welcome and encouraged to attend the May 18 press conference and be among the first to experience the new riverfront connection.
