KC STREETCAR PREPARES FOR FIFA WORLD CUP AND FAN FESTIVAL 2026™

As Kansas City welcomes the world for FIFA World Cup 26™, the KC Streetcar is preparing to serve thousands of residents and visitors traveling to and from the FIFA Fan Fest™ at the National WWI Museum and Memorial.

During all 18 Fan Fest days, KC Streetcar will operate enhanced transit service along the Main Street corridor, providing increased capacity, improved rider assistance, and expanded safety resources to support one of the largest events in Kansas City’s history.  The FIFA Fan Fest™ will be held at the National WWI Museum and Memorial, creating a centralized gathering place where fans can watch matches, enjoy entertainment, and celebrate the world’s most popular sporting event.

Three KC Streetcar stops will provide direct access to the Fan Fest site:

  • Union Station (Pershing Rd & Main St)
  • WWI Museum and Memorial (27th & Main St)
  • Union Hill (31st & Main St)

To accommodate increased demand, KC Streetcar will operate with boosted service levels and increased service frequency on all Fan Fest days through the deployment of additional streetcars and supplemental bus service.  During Fan Fest days, KC Streetcar will operate anywhere between 9 to 12 streetcars (depending on the day) simultaneously along the route, providing increased capacity and more frequent service between the Riverfront, Downtown, Crossroads, Midtown, Country Club Plaza, and UMKC.

In addition to expanded streetcar operations, supplemental “Streetcar Link” buses operated by RideKC Bus (KCATA) will service the Main Street corridor, providing additional transportation capacity and helping move large crowds efficiently during peak ingress and egress periods. These “Streetcar Link” buses will stop at designated streetcar stops between the City Market and the Country Club Plaza and be fare free. 

“The KC Streetcar is prepared to play a major role in moving residents, employees, and visitors throughout Kansas City during FIFA World Cup 26,” said Tom Gerend, Executive Director of the KC Streetcar Authority. “By increasing service levels, deploying supplemental buses, expanding our staffing resources, and enhancing rider safety tools, we are creating a transit experience that is safe, convenient, and capable of serving the extraordinary demand expected during this historic event.”

To support the enhanced service plan, KC Streetcar has expanded operations and maintenance staffing to ensure vehicles are available, maintained, and operating reliably throughout the tournament period.



Safety & Security 


Additional security resources have also been deployed, including a combination of Kansas City Police Department officers and contracted security personnel. Security staff will be positioned throughout the system and available to respond to rider concerns, assist with crowd management, and maintain a safe transit environment.

Volunteer Streetcar Ambassadors will also be stationed at key streetcar stops throughout the route. Ambassadors will assist visitors with wayfinding, provide service information, answer questions about local destinations, and help riders navigate the transit system during the World Cup festivities. As part of its preparations for the arrival of thousands of international and domestic visitors, KC Streetcar recently launched a new rider safety and incident reporting platform designed to provide a fast, discreet, and reliable way for riders to communicate directly with streetcar staff.

The See Say platform allows riders to quickly report safety concerns, maintenance issues, suspicious activity, cleanliness concerns, or other non-emergency issues occurring onboard streetcars or at streetcar stops. While riders should continue to call 911 in the event of an emergency, the See Say platform provides an additional tool for reporting non-emergency concerns directly to KC Streetcar personnel. Once a report is received and necessary information is gathered by dispatch staff, security personnel or maintenance teams can be directed to the appropriate location for response.

“The launch of See Say gives riders another way to connect directly with our team,” said Gerend. “Whether someone notices a maintenance issue, needs assistance, or wants to report a safety concern, the platform helps us receive information quickly and respond appropriately. It’s another important investment in customer service and safety as we prepare to welcome the world to Kansas City.”

Visitors are encouraged to download the free Transit app to help plan trips and track real-time KC Streetcar arrivals. As the official rider information and trip-planning app for KC Streetcar, Transit provides arrival predictions and step-by-step directions. Riders can use the app to identify the nearest streetcar stop, determine the best route to the FIFA Fan Fest™, and receive service updates throughout the tournament. KC Streetcar service remains fare-free and accessible for all riders.
