On Sunday, July 21, the KC Streetcar team will conduct a full-scale emergency exercise to test the operational coordination and preparedness of the streetcar system and first responder personnel in the event of an incident involving a streetcar. The exercise will take place between 8 a.m. and noon.
The Emergency Exercise will not affect regular KC Streetcar service.
KC Streetcar Authority personnel along with the Kansas City Police Department, the Kansas City Fire Department, first responders, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Herzog Transit and the KC Area Transportation Authority (KCATA), will coordinate and practice their emergency protocols for dealing with such an incident.
The exercise will take place along the KC Streetcar non-revenue track located at 2nd Street and Grand. There will be significant emergency personnel on-site in the parking lot between 2nd – 3rd Streets, and Oak and Grand during the exercise. Residents are advised that this is only a drill and to use caution when traveling near the area. The KCATA parking lot at 3rd & Grand, as well as Oak Street between 2nd and 3rd Street, will be closed to the public starting Sunday, July 21 at 6 a.m. Both the street and parking lot will reopen to the public after the drill.
The media will be restricted to the media designated area inside the KCATA parking lot located at 3rd and Grand. Media won’t be able to access the Singleton Yard facility or the active emergency exercise area while the drill is in progress.
