Dear KC: A Locally Inspired Poetry Contest

WINNERS ANNOUNCED



The KC Streetcar, Young Friends of the Kansas City Public Library, and Crux KC, in partnership with Bliss Books & Wine, are proud to announce the winners of Dear KC: A Locally Inspired Poetry Contest. The goal of the contest was to inspire Kansas Citians to write poems about our city during April, which is National Poetry Month. The organizing committee received over 55 submissions, and local poets & writers Piper Abernathy and Andrew Johnson selected three winners and two honorable mentions

Winners:
“Dear KC: Take the Bus Home to 18th and Vine” – Marcia Hurlow
“Hubcap Kansas City: Midtown Artist” – Polly Alice McCann
“July 2012, Kansas City” – Diana Platt

Honorable Mentions:
“Atonement in Swope Park” – Annie Newcomer
“United We Rest” – Kiernan Walshire


A team of designers at Crux KC created a series of illustrated posters that feature the winning poems. The posters will be unveiled at a public reading at Bliss Books (3502 Gillham Rd, Kansas City, MO 64111) and displayed at the KC Streetcar Library Northbound stop on May 17 at 6 pm.
