Since 2018, the downtown community has been celebrating all things 816! As always, we are partnering with Art in the Loop, the Downtown Council, Downtown Neighborhood Association, the River Market Community Association, Visit KC, and Crown Center, to bring a celebration worthy of our area code to the Historic City Market. Between 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 16, the downtown fun will be at City Market with three Art in the Loop performances featuring:
Myself Embodied | Myself Embodied delivers an immersive self-embodied experience that blends movement, poetry, spoken word, music, dance, and yoga. Over the course of an hour, she will guide participants through communal ritual, weaving together movement, journaling, and sound to catalyze self-love, healing, forgiveness, and joy.
True Lions | True Lions is a traditional folk, Ozark Old-Time style trio traditionally including acoustic guitar, bass, fiddle, and occasionally banjo. The band was originally created as a means to explore guitar and expand her knowledge of traditional folk music.
Jass | Jass is a musician whose work is rooted in jazz, blues, and soul, combined with a modern element of spoken word and hip hop. This particular performance entitled “The Ride,” encourages the audience to enjoy the journey and to be open to exploration throughout. Every note, every shift, is an invitation to ride along, reflect, and release.
