At the October 2016 board meeting of the Kansas City Streetcar Authority, discussion was had about the upcoming November 8, 2016, election, specifically the Kansas City Light Rail Initiative.

At that meeting, the Board of Directors of the Kansas City Streetcar Authority evaluated their position on the Kansas City Light Rail Initiative Question 3 and made this statement:

“The Kansas City Streetcar Authority has evaluated the light rail proposal appearing on the Nov. 8th ballot, and has determined the plan to be unworkable and financially impractical. Rather, the Kansas City Streetcar Authority believes that it is appropriate to coordinate with the City of Kansas City, MO, and our regional partners to thoughtfully and methodically build on the success of the downtown streetcar starter line.”

Question 3 asks voters to approve three separate sales taxes in order to partially fund the construction, operation and maintenance of a citywide light rail transit system. This Light Rail Initiative is being led by Clay Chastain and is in no way connected to the City of Kansas City, Missouri, or the Kansas City Streetcar Authority.
