The KC Streetcar Powers Up

The KC Streetcar Undergoes First Powered Test on Main Street

KC Streetcar #801 to be tested under its own power

WHAT: KC Streetcar #801 will roll down Main Street under its own power for the first time on Thursday morning. This test run of the KC Streetcar will check the clearance and power of the vehicle as it interacts with the surrounding environment.  The streetcar will also be tested at various speeds as it travels around corners and approaches platforms. The public is urged to keep a safe distance from the crews while tests are being performed.  Any vehicles parked on the tracks or over the white line during this time will be towed. The overhead wires are activated and should not be contacted, as even indirect contact with the wires could be fatal.

WHEN:   Thursday, November 12, 2015.  Estimated start time 7:00 am. Duration and work are subject to change. Follow us on twitter for the latest details (www.twitter.com/kcstreetcar).

WHO:      Members of the KC Streetcar Constructors, Herzog Transit, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and the KC Streetcar Authority will work collaboratively on this power test of the KC Streetcar.

WHERE: The test run will take place along the entire streetcar route on Main Street from Union Station and through the River Market, including 3rd Street, 5th Street, Delaware and Grand.

Since its arrival, KC Streetcar #801 has gone through a series of systems integration tests including clearance checks on the entire route and a power and systems test within the Singleton Yard Vehicle Maintenance Facility and the non-revenue track.
