KC Streetcar 805

WHAT: Overnight testing of KC Streetcar 805 will move from facility testing to dynamic testing out on the streetcar route starting at midnight. The KC Streetcar team will test the functionality of the braking systems, including stop distance tests, and propulsion system functionality. During this time, KC Streetcar 805 will not be available for public service.


WHEN: Thursday, May 29 and Friday, May 30, 2019, from midnight to approximately 4:00 a.m. An additional round of testing will take place Sunday June 2, Monday June 3 and Tuesday, June 4 from midnight to 4:00 a.m. Timing is subject to change and updates will be posted on Twitter (www.twitter.com/kcstreetcar) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/kcstreetcar)


WHO: The dynamic testing will be led by the streetcar manufacturer, CAF, and supported by the City of Kansas City, Missouri, the KC Streetcar Authority, Operations & Maintenance contractor, Herzog Transit; and the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD).


WHERE: Testing will take place on Main Street between 18th Street and Pershing Road. During this time, there will be periodic road closures to ensure the safety of those conducting the tests as well as other motorists. On-street parking will also be prohibited along Main Street between 18th Street and Pershing during the time of testing only.

Those road closures during the testing hours are:

  • Main Street is closed to all northbound and southbound traffic between 18th Street to Pershing Road.
  • 19th Street closed periodically to eastbound and westbound traffic with KC Streetcar Team monitoring and flagging traffic through intersection at planned intervals.
  • 20th Street closed at Main Street to all eastbound and westbound traffic.
