It’s Big XII time Kansas City

2017 is the first year that the KC Streetcar is operating during the Big XII Men’s Basketball Tournament and we couldn’t be more excited. To help our visitors get around when attending the games at the Sprint Center, we partnered with the Downtown Council in providing parking and destination maps. More information can be found on the VisitKC website, www.visitkc.com.

The KC Streetcar is operating with regular hours during the Big XII basketball tournament. There is also added security on board the streetcars as well as around the streetcar stops:

  • Wednesday, March 8: 6:00am – Midnight
  • Thursday, March 9: 6:00am – Midnight
  • Friday, March 10: 6:00am – 2:00am
  • Saturday, March 11: 7:00am – 2:00am

With the addition of the KC Streetcar, your parking options are greater.  Park in the River Market or the Crossroads area, and hop on the FREE KC Streetcar to head to the Power & Light District and the Sprint Center.

There are approximately 12,486 publicly accessible off-street parking spaces within one block of the streetcar route. This does not include the on-street parking that has been preserved in areas on the downtown streetcar route, as well as adjacent streets.

Parking along the streetcar route is also allowed but vehicles must park within the painted white lines along the route. This means that every portion of the vehicle, including the side mirrors, must be inside the painted white lines. This is to ensure that the streetcar has clearance to run along the tracks without any interference. Since a streetcar cannot swerve, it cannot move out of the way of parked vehicles. Vehicles should also never park on the streetcar tracks.
